I have worked as an artist for over 35 years. After a dozen years of working with colored pencils, I turned to making three-dimensional sculptures and installations that reflected my pleasure in materials such as fur, metal, quills and stones. These past few years, I’ve focused on digital work using an iPad, which allows me to experiment with various media, color schemes and scales.

Working on an iPad is different than working with my hands. Sometimes I miss the tactile feel of textures and found objects that retain a stranger’s presence. But now, instead of many hours spent cutting and sewing, I enjoy the quick results and greater experimental freedom that digital work offers.

Some aspects that have guided me toward the truth of an artwork remain the same. The satisfaction of combining unlikely elements. The need for quiet and solitude. Questions that were present from the beginning have deepened and become, themselves, my tools and materials: “What happens if…? How do I let go so something else can happen? What is the work trying to say? How do I listen?”
